Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu, after going over a demo of various models of civilian drones, along with DGP JV Ramudu and advisor Dr Gandhi PC Kaza, has decided to acquire 10 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). The drones will be used for police and civilian applications, especially crowd control and monitoring of dharnas, riots, strikes, rasta rokos, religious processions, disaster management and many more.
The drone cameras are known to be equipped with advanced software for facial recognition and identification of known offenders from video footage collected from CCTV cameras. The drone cameras are fitted with high-resolution infrared cameras and thermal cameras capable of distinguishing the faces out of the already available database of offenders. The drones are capable of carrying cameras and can fly up to 100 metres, and remain in the air until one hour.
The government wishes to use these drones to monitor and control crowds at various ghats during Krishna Pushkaralu. Going forward these UAVs are expected to bring down crime, reduce road accidents and improve traffic flow.
