Badminton champion PV Sindhu stole the show during the Bonalu celebrations today in Secunderabad, Lal Darwaza. Sindhu is young, hardworking and talented player of Indian contingent. She is all set to go to the Rio Olympics on August 2nd. Also on board of Badminton players from the city, is the champion Saina Nehwal. The players are working hard and wouldn’t want to leave any stone unturned to ensure that they bag the much coveted gold medal.
It is for the first time that the young Sindhu came to the temple with a bonam (the traditional offering) to be offered to the deity. It was an attractive one made in gold and treh fact that she is the much loved sports person from the city made it even more significant. She told the reporters that all she wished fro was to be able to play well and bag a medal at Rio and general wellbeing of every one. She reaffirmed her faith that she is going to bring good news from Rio as she has been training well.
The twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad have been celebrating traditional festival of Bonalu that comes in the Ashada masam (month) since the last couple of weeks. Last Sunday it was the Mahankali temple in Secunderabad where Bonalu was held with much fanfare. This week it is the Lal Darwaza and surrounding areas that observe Bonalu. It is a legend and tradition that has survived several decades and people have immense faith as they believe that offering Bonam with utmost devotion will please the deity (ammavaru) who will in turn shower her blessings on all.
