After the show of power in Assam during CM Sonowal’s oath taking ceremony, BJP did indicate its aim to spread its wings to other states, AP included. This was not the first time such indications became obvious. In fact, despite AP CM Chandrababu Naidu’s overtures to get BJP on his side, Narendra Modi led party at the centre has been time and again rebuffing TDP and much speculation is being made on the aspect that this particular non-cooperation from BJP is with an ulterior motive.
However, as it turns out, BJP seems to have strengthened its resolve to grab power in Andhra Pradesh in the 2019 elections. “We will support AP till 2019,” said Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu in an interview to the media on Thursday. Does that mean post-2019 is a different ball game? Looks like it, atleast if we follow his comments on Babu and AP.
Because I am a Telugu person I went that extra mile to help the new state. Now, Babu is acting as if it is my mistake that the special status has not come. According to the 14th budgetary ordinance it is not possible to allocate special status to any state. Bihar has asked for it. Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Telangana have all asked for it. Had we included the special status clause at the time AP reorganization Act itself, it would have helped, but unfortunately it was refused at the time. Now, it’s not possible,” he shared.
Venkaiah Naidu was quite vocal in his criticism of AP CM. He said AP does not need a Singapore or Hyderabad-like city. Why all the development should be centered in the capital region?” he asked.
