January 24, 2015 was a historic day for Indians in Tallahasse, FL, USA.   Hundreds of singers  from two Tallahassee, FL based choruses, స్వరవాహిని – “swaravAhini” and “Tallahassee Community Chorus” joined their voices in singing a composition  హే జితాత్మా గాంధీ మహాత్మా (“hE jitAtmA gAMdhI mahAtma”)  as a part of Unity-10 concert celebrating lives of Gandhi, Mandela and King.  This was a unique experiment to have two choruses used to two diverse systems of music singing a song in Telugu/saMskRt and English – set to music based on eastern music system.   There are several firsts to the credit of this song.  Original Telugu lyrics were by Srinivasa Bharadwaj Kishore, with sanskrit translation by Rayaprolu Venkata Kameswara Sarma and english translation by Uma Eyyunni.  Music was set based on four raagas in two different rhythm patterrns.  Sheet music for the TCChorus singers, the orchestra musicians and the conductor were created by Srinivasa Bharadwaj Kishore.
