As the date is nearing for the Rajyasabha election to be held on June 11, TRS has zeroed in on senior leader D Srinivas and Capt. Laxmikantha Rao for the two seats that will fall vacant. At present V Hanumantha Rao and Gundu Sudha Rani are holding the seats in the upper house.
Capt Laxmikantha Rao has been a strong supporter of TRS party since inception, and was with K Chandraseohar Rao throughout the Separate Telangana movement. He is a close relative of former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao and is an army man who participated in the Indo-Pak war. He was the MLA of Huzurabad, and held the post of TRS Minister during Congress regime 2—4-2006.
On the other hand D Srinivas who moved over from Congress is currently enjoying the status of the Adviser to State government on inter-state relations.
TRS holds enough MLS to represent its 2 MPs and hence the election of its candidates is almost confirmed, and this is possible even if the 20 MLAs who deserted Congress to join KCR are disallowed to vote as was the case in Uttarakhand. The state Congress party does not have enough strength to field even one candidate. YSRCP party has unanimously selected Vijay Sai Reddy for Rajyasabha as a token of gratitude for his loyalty to the party.
In Andhra Pradesh, Nara Lokesh, the other day, confirmed that no Telangana member will be allowed to represent TDP in Rajyasabha.
