Accidents are dime a dozen on Indian roads, especially since traffic rules are flouted like no body’s business. But the one that was caught on a CCTV camera in Nizamabad is ghastly and a classic example of rule breaking that can cost valuable lives. Five persons belonging to two families were killed when their car was crushed between two huge trucks that collided head-on while there were travelling on the National Highway 44, near Tekrial village on Wednesday.
The victims included Yamsani Lakshman (40) and his son Harsha (17) belonging to Alur, ‘Dande Praveen (40), his daughter Nikitha and son Bharath (14) of Velmal who were all crushed to death thanks to the rash driving of Praveen who over took one of the trucks from the left, took a rash turn towards right and even though the truck swerved towards further right to avoid collision, a heavy commodities’ truck coming from the opposite side from Hyderabad collided head on and the Alto car that was stuck in between was instantly crushed. While all the members in the car died, one of the truck drivers is seriously injured.
Just the post-accident images are enough to cause jitters, and a reminder that if it was not for the haste, valuable lives would not have been lost. The two friends Praveen and Lakshman came up the hard way, and ran supermarkets; and had the youngsters lived, would have been first generation of the families to have aimed for higher studies.
