Govt announces first 20 Smart Cities; Bhubaneswar tops list, Mumbai Telangana misses outThe Union government on Thursday announced the names of the initial 20 urban areas that will be developed as keen smart cities.

“Implementation of smart cities plans will showcase incorporated arranging. The investment of Rs 50,802 crores has been proposed in chosen keen urban areas and towns amid the five-year period,” said Minister of urban development Venkaiah Naidu, while reporting the rundown.

“There are five capital cities among the 20 brilliant urban areas picked,” Naidu said. “A consortium of just Indian companies was decided for plans of nine urban areas from the 20 cities choosen,” he included.

The urban development ministry got recommendations for 97 cities from state governments.

The selected cities will be equipped with basic infrastructure, efficient urban development and Public transport, IT availability and e-governance systems. Later on, the government plans to declare 40 cities  each to be created as a Smart City.

2. Pune (Maharashtra)
3. Jaipur (Rajasthan)
4. Surat (Gujarat)
5. Kochi (kerala)
6. Ahmedabad (Gujarat)
7. Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh)
8.Visakhapatnam (AndhraPreadesh)
9. Solapur (Maharashtra)
10 Davanagere (Karnataka)
11. Indore ( Madhya Pradesh)
12. NDMC (Delhi)
13. Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu)
14. Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh)
15. Belagavi (Karnataka)
16. Udaipur (Rajasthan)
17. Guwahati (Assam)
18. Chennai (Tamil Nadu)
19. Ludhiana (Punjab)
20. Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh)
