The Indo American Community Service (IACS) organization is started accepting applications for 2014 Summer Indian American Leadership Internship Program. This program provides a unique opportunity for Indo American undergraduate and graduate students to learn about the U.S. legislative process and make valuable professional contacts in Washington D.C. The goal of the IACS Leadership Internship Program is to develop young Indian American leaders with the skills, outlook and contacts necessary to generate and sustain positive change in Washington D.C and within their local communities.

Indo American Community Service – Interns work at Capital hill

Students need to be enrolled full-time in college and be either a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident in order to be eligible for the internship. The application form and detailed information on the internship program are available at http://www.iacsinfo.org/internships/. Interested students must submit their applications along with the required 500-word essay by Feb 1, 2014 in order to be considered for selection.


Last year IACS has sent 5 Indian American students through this program to work as Congressional interns at Capitol Hill.

Program Description

The IACS Leaders Internship Program sponsored by Indo-American Community Services is eight week‐ long internship program for college students. Interns work at Capital hill and other legislation, federal agencies and public policy decision making offices.. Interns will have the opportunities to attend educational seminars that focus on domestic and international issues, participate in leadership mentoring/training sessions and visit cultural and historical sites in the Washington, D.C., area. Each intern must complete a team community service project in the surrounding community. IACS will provide $1500 as stipend after successful completion of this eight week program.


‐ U.S. citizen or permit to work in the U.S.
‐ Currently or recently enrolled in college full‐time when applying for program.
‐ Demonstrated interest in public service, governance, and policy‐making process.

Selection Process

IACS Leadership Interns are selected based on the following criteria:
‐ Solid scholastic achievement
‐ Strong writing skills (One 8×11 page essay supporting application required)
‐ Community service contributions
‐ Evidence of leadership skills
‐ Interview performance
‐ Two letters of recommendation
The selection is highly competitive. Applications are submitted to IACS and reviewed by selection committee. Finalists are selected and notified by IACS.

IACS is currently accepting the Applications for Summer of 2014

– Application Deadline is Feb 1 st. 2014.
