Sunrisers did it, thanks to Warner ably supported by the rest of the team, especially the bowlers. For the first time in IPL, much to the delight of the fans, Sunrisers Hyderabad clinched the title against Viral Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
Sunrisers chose to bat and it looked like the day belonged to David Warner again when he hit a 68 before being caught. They rest of the battling line did their job well enough, but it was Cutting’s cutting edge 24 runs in the last over of Shane Watson that took the score to 208, which didn’t look too formidable when RCB’s Viral Kohli and Gayle went on a quick rampage. It was again Cutting who stopped Gayle’s storm, and Viral Kohli too was stopped in his tracks but not before he showcased amazing battling skills by scoring 54 out of 35 balls dotted with five fours and two sixes. Sunrisers’ bowlers took the moment into their hands with some amazing performances by the likes of Mustafizur Rahaman (1/37 in 4 overs) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (0/25 in 4 overs) – he bowled the last overs and towards the end allowed only 9 runs of 13 balls. Sunrisers won the match with 8 runs and Warner and his boys’ joy knew no bound.
However, Virat Kohli’s stint this season is indeed worth mention, as he finished an astounding 973 runs in the series, just a quarter century less than the magic 1000 run-figure. He made 973 runs in 81.08 overs at a strike rate of 132.03 with four centuries and seven half centuries filled with 83 boundaries and an astounding 38 sixes.
