A day after five Iranian nationals were confined by Visakha (Rural) Police for their suspicious behavior at a Hotel in Bhubaneswar, the Odisha Police on Thursday said they were unrealistic to be suspected for any terror links.
The five, who are being tested by the police, are in control of valid passport and traveler visas. IG of Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch Arun Bothra said: “It is almost confirmed that they are not terrorists but verification about their unusal behavior in Bhubaneswar is in progress.”
While a team of officials from STF has made a beeline for Vizag for testing the Iranians, it is still indeterminate if the State Police might want to convey them to Bhubaneswar for interrogation. Sources said, if the ongoing investigation that there is nothing fishy about their movements, the Iranian countries will be permitted to proceed with their travel.
Iranians Not Terror Link Suspects : Odisha Police
The group of five had swiftly left from a hotel in Bhubaneswar on the Republic Day eve when they were asked to produce identity proofs for booking rooms. This triggered an alert by Odisha Police which asked the STF, an arm of the Crime Branch, to research into the matter.
After tracking hem for a day, the STF tipped off Visakha (Rural) Police which detained five at Nakkapalli Police limits on Wednesday evening. The gathering included two women. Another gathering of three Iranians too were confined at Bargarh yesterday. The two group had begun their trip from Delhi around January 5 and were going in hired cars.
