As a part of 5-nation tour Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after visiting Switzerland, where he batted for support of India’s membership in NSG (Nuclear Supply Group) is currently in Washington. During his stay in the US, he will be visiting President Barack Obama at the White House, will address a joint Congress meeting and meet a few business leaders and address Indo-US Business Council.
This will be seventh time in the last couple of years that Modi will be meeting Obama. Both the leaders will reflect on issues of climate change, security and co-operation according to an official release.
Earlier Modi has visited Afghanistan and Qatar that he called both successful visits. During the Switzerland trip prime minister of India seems to have focused on issues like black money and tax evasion. However, New York Times reported, “There are few relationships between Obama and another world leader more unlikely than the one he has with Modi,” even while there are compelling reasons like the – US is encouraging India’s rise as a regional giant for Obama’s so-called “pivot to Asia” policy and counter China’s global economic and military superpower ambitions.
The Times drew a contrast between both leaders and said – Obama has made the protection of minorities a central pillar of his life because he believes that “criticism and dissent are core tenets of democracy. But Modi, by contrast, spent much of his life rising through the ranks of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a right-wing paramilitary organisation that campaigns forcefully for India’s Hindu majority,
