Music maestro Ilayaraja was today presented the prestigious ‘Nishagandhi Puraskaram’ by Kerala government in acknowledgment of his prominent contribution to Indian film music. The honor contains Rs 1,50,000,a citation and a statuette.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy exhibited the grant to Ilayaraja at the inaugural function of the Nishangandhi Annual dance and music celebration organized t by the State Tourism Department.
Talking on the event, Chandy said Kerala government would give five acres of land of area to Ilaiyaraja to begin a music foundation. The Chief Secretary has been approached to recognize the area for the task, he said. In his reply, Ilayaraja said he was very happy to receive the award and that the objective of starting the music academy “is to produce hundreds of Ilaiyarajas” .
