This Wimbledon (June 27 – July 10) may well turn out to be memorable one for Novak Djokovic.
On Monday when he will be playing his first match at the centre court in Wimbledon, that may be the first step in what can turn out to be the best accomplishment of the sport.
He was on a winning spree since July jumping from one major tournament to the other with a gold in hand, and is surely headed for the Golden Slam that would mean capturing tennis’ four major tournaments and an Olympic gold in the same calender year.
His French Open victory (the first one for him) has already put him in the elite league. Only five men – Laver, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Djokovic himself – have won each of the four majors in the open era at least once. Djokovic was already one of only eight men in the history of the game to have captured ten or more Grand Slam titles.
