Despite the official claims that Pushkaralu works are going on in full steam ahead Vijayawada and surrounding ghats will be well equipped to handle the rush, opposition parties were of different opinion. Speaking for a news channel Vijayawada city Congress President Malladi Vishni said that there was a delay in entrusting the works which was mainly to give contracts to the near and dear within Telugu Desam party. Leaders of various parties questioned the awarding of contracts on nomination basis, reveal that there is a huge backlog in completion of works.
CPM State Council member Ch Babu Rao said that of the undertaken 328 works only 70 were completed. He alleged huge corruption prevailing in the whole process. CPI City Secretary Donepudi Shankar said that there is no quality in the works either. YSRCP leader Gotham Reddy was of the opinion that the government is giving undue publicity to Pushkaralu in order to get political benefits. BJP leader Vellampalli Srinivas said that there was no adequate compensation for demolished buildings in Vijayawada.
However Telugu Desam Party State Secretary G Ramakrishna refuted the charges. He said that one-third of the works have already been completed and said that there was no scope for irregularities. However, will the works be completed on time with the date for Pushkaralu fast approaching? That only remains to be seen to believe.
