Sindhu does it. India has been waiting with bated breath for 3.30am’s (IST) match when PV Sindhu was going to face World No 2 Yihan Wang for a match that was going to get her into semifinal at Rio Olympics. She had earlier played with Yihan and won against the former World No 1 after she herself was defeated by Yihan at London. So both knew each other and tt was not going to be an easy win.
However, Sindhu who is playing for the Olympics for the first time seemed to be in her best of forms as she smashed out Yhan for 22-20, 21-19 – and there wasn’t much her opponent could do.
She is now only one win away from that elusive first medal for Indian contingent. IN the semifinals she will either face World No 6, Japan’s Okuhara or World No 12 Akane Yamaguchi.
