Congress party is reeling under the pressure of repeated failures. Rahul Gandhi’s campaign for General Elections in 2014, got the party a meager 44 seats – its worst ever performance. Since then the party has been facing questions of the ability of Rahul’s leadership. The recent debacle saw Congress losing power in Kerala and Assam. And the opposition too every opportunity to jibe and jeer at Rahul and his wrong steps each time something went wrong.
But now when Sonia Gandhi is giving indications that she would like to step aside as Part chief and give way to someone else, the party seniors continue to foster faith in their young leaders as they bat for Rahul Gandhi. 60-year-old Sonia Gandhi has been the Congress President since April 1998, and since the last few years, her son Rahul Gandhi has been the Party No2. Even as there are no indications on when the changes may take place, change is imminent say sources.
