Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat today demanded that the Center release over Rs 732 crore to accelerate reproduction works and flood management projects in the ranges raved by the glimmer surges of 2013.

In a letter to Union Minister for Water Resources Uma Bharati, Rawat said the service owes Rs 732.23 crore to Uttarakhand under the centrally-sponsored schemes (CSSs) – for reproduction, irrigation benefit program – and quickened irrigation system benfit program (AIBP). Rawat said the sum will be entirety of the remaining parts of what the Center owes under the three plans.

He alleged that various undertakings are stuck halfway as assets were not being released by the ministry. Noting that the amount invested in the projects cannot pay dividends until they are completed, Rawat asked the Minister to release reserves, particularly to complete the surge safety project before the onset of storm.
