The seemingly lost match with Gujarat Lions turned around for Royal challengers Bangalore taking them into the Indian Premier League final.
RCB was chasing a target of 159, and very early into the match it was at 29 for five wickets with the star batsmen like Gayle and Virat Kohli biting the dust much to the disappointment of Bangalore supporters; and it was at this point that AB de Villiers came in, and played a breathtaking innings and made a smashing 79 off 47 balls, and single handedly took RCB into finals at just 18.2 overs. The earlier efforts of Gujarat Lions especially that of Dhawal Kulkarni and Dwayne Smith faded away with the spectacular play by de Villiers.
The South African was supported by Iqbal Abdulla (33 not out of 25) and together they made 91 runs. RCB versus Gujarat Lions was indeed an ideal IPL match, especially in the last leg when the Bangalore boys needed 49 off the last 30 balls. AB de Villiers finished the target with five sixes and that many boundaries and took the team to victory when there were still 10 balls to spare.
