A teaser is released and we go gaga over it. We look at the number of hits or views the video has got on YouTube and rejoice. Little do we understand that the number of views a video gets is not necessarily the measure of success of the film. However, it is definitely a measure of craze and curiosity a lead hero evokes in the audience. This is evident in the way many heavy budget films of top heroes have evoked huge responses in the trailer stage, but turned duds at the box office after the initial euphoria has died down.
The trailer video of Sampoornesh Babu’s yet to be released ‘Kobbarimatta’ reached the 3 lakh mark in the second day itself, which is a clear indication of the intrigue, curiosity and craze this antithesis to typical Telugu film hero demands. After the success of his first film, ‘Hrudaya Kaleyam’ Sampoornesh made a few appearances before Singam 123. The film was much awaited by the audience who had a lot of fun watching ‘Hrudaya Kaleyam’. They expected a lot of entertainment, if possible more than his previous film. But it was not to be. ‘Singam 123’ was too predictable, and was trashed by the audience.
Evidently, it was because the makers of his films took his image for granted and typecast him in one predictable scene after the other. And there is only so much one can take. The script was hardly there, and comedy was the casualty.
The trailer of ‘Kobbarimatta’ has one long breathless dialogue by Sampu where he eulogizes women even as he underlines it with ample sarcasm a la Peddarayudu style. Nothing much else has been revealed in the trailer. Yet, as it is obvious, the audience are looking forward to a comic cinema that keeps them laughing and entertained through the 2 hours of the film, and they hope the trailer is a preview of the same.
Here is a talented and lucky actor, and one hopes he chooses his films wisely, and secures his place firmly in the tinsel world.
