In a visible shift from the time the Congress tried to distance itself from the Vadra’s alleged financial dealings with arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari to now when Congress party President Sonia Gandhi turned aggressive in defence of her son-in-law and said that the allegations were a part of conspiracy. “This is a conspiracy to achieve the objective of banishing Congress…if there is something there should be an impartial probe,” she stated. Even as she came heavily down upon BJP’s extravagant 2-year in office celebrations, calling Modi a Shahenshah. “At a time when the country is facing drought, why should we have such shows,” she asked.
This is a visible change in the party’s posture from the time Vadra’s land dealings in Haryana and Rajasthan when Congress was in power were revealed, and BJP did not miss the point and jibed saying that it is now proven that Robert Vadra is not a private person and he is indeed the member of the family.
What makes this shift significant is the growing pressure on Priyanka Gandhi to take active role in the party affairs that she may not be able to resist for long.
