Chicago, February 2: Telugu Association of Greater Chicago (TAGC) has been successful in Promoting and nurturing the rich heritage of the Telugu Culture and Language for the past 49 years across and beyond the Greater Chicago land area as non-profit organization.
TAGC conducted Sankranti and Republic day event on 1st February, 2020 from 2:30 PM to 10:00 PM local time at Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago Sri Rama Temple’s auditorium. TAGC president Sri Praveen Vemulapalli & Mrs. Kranti Vemulapalli, President-Elect Sri Venkat Gunuganti, Secretary Sri Anji Reddy Kandimalla, Joint Secretary Smt. Vineetha Prodduturi and other board members started the program with lightening the lamps along with lord Ganesha puja.
Smt. Neelima Cheikycharla and team worked very hard in decorating the Main Entrance and Performance Stage with the themes of Sankranti and Republic Day. They also arranged a beautiful Bommalakoluvu.
Sri Anji Reddy Kandimalla, Treasurer Sri. Panduranga Reddy Lenkala, Joint Treasurer Sri. Ramana Kalva and Sri. Parameswara Reddy Yarasani oversaw membership registration and guest check-in. Smt. Uma Avadutha and other female & youth volunteers received the female guests with traditional offering of Sindhuram and Rosewater. The response from Telugu community was tremendous with nearly 1500 guests attended as per Membership Committee chair Parameswara Reddy Yarasani.
Almost 350 participants with 32 teams performed cultural programs. A House full of Guests enjoyed and continuously cheered for the performances. Some of the highlights are kids performing a dance with the theme of Sankranti festival’s significance, ‘Jai Kisan’ program to show farmer’s importance and the challenges they face with agriculture, ‘Vanam’ about importance of protecting our environment, ‘Women Empowerment’ about the challenges women face in our present society and how one can overcome those, ‘Chitralahari’ program consisting of Republic Day theme and several other popular movie songs, classical Bharatanatyam dance and many more. At the end of each cultural program, TAGC gave certificates for all the participants in recognition and presented green plants to program coordinators, choreographers in support of protecting our environment. Cultural Committee chair Smt. Vineetha Prodduturi thanked co-chairs Smt. Sirisha Madduri, Smt. Madhavi Rani Konakalla, Smt. Shilpa Paidimarry, Sri. Srikanth Bethi along with several coordinators, choreographers for their relentless efforts from past several weeks and in making cultural programs a huge success.
Guests were offered several varieties of food items including traditional Ghee Ariselu, Chekkinalu, Ulavacharu, Vadiyalu which were imported from Andhra & Telangana. Remaining food varieties are sponsored by Bawarchi Restaurant Naperville. Some of the food items were served in clay pots and tawas. As per Food Committee chair Sri. Santosh Konduri, guests were very impressed and happy with the dining hall decoration, ambiance and taste of the food. He thanked youth chair Sri. Vijay Bheeram, Sri. Venkat Gunuganti, Board Of Directors Sri. Sashi Chava, Sri. Naveen Aduma, Sri. Rohit Akula, Sri. Sridhar Alavala, several youth members and volunteers for helping with food serving, dining hall decorations etc.

TAGC facilitated recently appointed Dr. Sreenivas Reddy for Illinois State Medical Disciplinary Board, he was appointed by Illinois governor Pritzker. Funds received from guests are donated to TAGC’s Viswa Bharati Blind School located in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. This school helps child orphans suffering from blindness.
President Praveen Vemulapalli thanked the guests, donors, performers, choreographers, coordinators, volunteers, Board of Directors, media persons for their continuous support and making this event a very grand success. Event has ended by playing national anthem of both India and USA.
