MCMINNVILLE, Tenn., June 20, 2016 – In 2014, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly proclaimed June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in recognition of the mind and body benefits of practicing yoga and its increasing popularity worldwide.
This year’s events will feature yogi and visionary Sadhguru, founder of the international nonprofit Isha Foundation with its U.S. headquarters, Isha Institute of Inner Sciences, located in McMinnville, Tennessee. Sadhguru will lead the UN yoga session and will also take part in a conversation with Max Kennedy, as well as host a Facebook Live session for worldwide participation. Details of each event follow.

International Day of Yoga: Sadhguru Leads UN Yoga Session

With UN officials, ambassadors and dignitaries and members of the public in attendance to mark the second annual International Day of Yoga, renowned spiritual leader Sadhguru will lead the celebration that includes a simple yoga postures and musical incantation. Yogic meals will be served. UN General Assembly President Mogens Lykketoft is the event’s chief guest. Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information Cristina Gallach will also address the crowd, and Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin, Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, will welcome guests. The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in association with the UN Department of Public Information.
