The arrest of the five Musilm youth even as six of the eleven arrested on suspicion of planning a terror attack were left after interrogation has brought back the issue of innocent Muslim youth arrested on suspicion based on a few indicators and later released for want of evidence, yet continuing to be under the radar of investigation – and losing out on career and peace of mind.
When the city is reeling under the threat of a terror attack and with news of bombings and attacks pouring in from all around the world, the recent being too close for comfort – Bangladesh – not many are ready to give this line of thought any importance. Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM has assured the Muslims of providing legal assistance to the youth, IF THEY ARE INNOCENT. And in the same breath he reiterated that there is no place for violence in Islam.
While the families of the youth that were released after initial interrogation are an upset lot, and lament on the callous attitude of NIA; the family members of the prime accused the Yazdani brothers say that the electrical wires police found was infact old wires used by their late father as he was an electrical contractor. The NIA officials dealing with the case rubbish the comments as typical of the families who hardly had any idea of what their kids do on the internet.
On the other hand there is a general fear being expressed by educationists who looking at the profile of the accused with higher studies to their credit, fear that there is a danger to the career prospects of educated Muslim youth in the job market. Many among the liberals are burdened by the knowledge that a few Muslim youth are being misguided to follow the path of terror.
Over all as the Ramzan month draws to a close and Eid is fast approaching, the ominous shadow of terror has affected the sheen of the festival that at other times is supposed to be filled with happiness and celebrations
