It was one of those much anticipated weekends in Bollywood, when two huge movies – Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Mohenjodaro’ starring the powerhouse of performance Hrithik Roshan and the much successful actor Akshay Kumar’s film, ‘Rustom’ – both period films in a way released.
Rustom, a story claimed to be inspired by the infamous Nanavati case is a much recent past, while Gowariker’s film is all about a civilisation that existed centuries ago. What works for the film are huge sets, amazing costumes despite the controversy that not much research went into designing the costumes and Hrithik Roshan. What fails is that the film hangs in between being a historical and a love drama.
Even in Tinu Suresh Desai’s Rustom the costume, make-up, hair and production design take away the accolades. But the drama based on real life that should have otherwise been fascinating falters, and you are left with wasted cast, and technical brilliance. The screenplay leaves you confused and disappointed.
Yet, may be the films deserve a dekko for all the effort.
