After a great victory and a large swearing in ceremony, Jayalalitha, CM of Tamil Nadu is back to what she is good at…fighting criticism tooth and nail.
AIADMK Chief, Amma, Jayalalitha proved her detractors wrong once again, won Tamil Nadu elections with a clear majority, and immediately after swearing-in, announced curbs on liquor shops by shutting down 500 of them and she revised their timings too, as she promised complete liquor prohibition in a phased manner. In order to keep her pre-poll promises, she announced free breakfast for government-run school students; eight grams gold for newly-married women to make jewellery – crop loans to be waived off and so on. She truly became the Amma of all benefits without a worry in the world about how she will see them through without turning the state budget topsy turvy.
The latest controversy that she is involved in is DMK supremo M Karunanidhi blaming her for insulting his son MK Stalin by not allotting a proper seat for him during her swearing in ceremony. MK Stalin who qualifies as the leader for the largest opposition party was found to be sitting in the 16th row, and as Karunanidhi said yesterday, May 24 – the fact that Sarath Kumar of AIADMK who lost election was found to be sitting bang in the front. Now one wonders which hurt most.
Jayalalitha, the cool cat that she is clarified saying she was not aware of his decision to attend her swearing in ceremony. I am very thankful, she said. And added that had she known she would have broken the protocol and given a prominent seat to Stalin.
Well, here too it is a fight for a seat – albeit of a different kind.
