It was a miffed Indian-American doctoral student Mainak Sarkar, who had gunned down the professor of University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), it was found. Mainak in his blog had accused Professor William Klug of stealing his computer code and giving it to someone else. A bright student and alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, Sarkar shot dead the professor in his small office at the university before killing himself.
Sarkar was listed on the UCLA webste as one of the members of the research group led by Klug, and the authorities found a ‘Kill List’ at his Minnesota house that listed another professor and a woman. The woman’s body was found at her home; she was shot dead, but the other professor is safe.
Initially, when the professor and Mainak were found dead, it triggered fear of an attempted mass shooting at the campus.
