Anurag Kashyap’s film of drug menace Udta Punjab has been passed with a single cut and an A certificate. Obviously the ‘A’ here refers to censor crtification, but can also be said in praise of Anurag and his team stood firm against Pahlaj Nihalani led censor board and won with an A grade. On Monday afternoon, the Bombay High Court passed the film with a single cut.
Earlier Pahlaj Nihalani ordered for 89 cuts, and asked the filmmakers to remove references to Punjab in the title and the film.
The court ruling stated that the censor board has no right to interfere in how the film is made or if it highlights an issue, especially when the makers have categorically stated that they do not intend to support drugs or glamourise drug use.
